Question
I have a 13 yera old female cat she has a dirt tray as latley she is very timmed to go out due to other cats seting about her. the problem is that she some times uses the tray but other times she will do the bits on my bed room carpet, help is she just being lazey ? as the tray i have moved from the kitchen to the landing then to my bedroom.

Answer
Claire,

No, she's not being lazy. She is just getting old. She needs to go to the vet for a senior cat checkup to check the functions of her kidneys, liver, and thyroid. Your cat is approx. 68 years old in human years and things start to go out, even their minds sometimes (though she not THAT old).

When they have 'accidents' outside the litterbox it could be that she is trying to tell you something. Like she is upset about something, stressed, or has pain. She could also have arthritis that makes it painful for her to get in the litterbox.

She needs constant reassurance from you and lots of love now. Aging and the problems related to it are very confusing for them because they don't understand what is going on and why. Don't ever get upset at her for getting old.

I am including some great links about the senior cat and litterbox problems that you may find helpful: (copy and paste, or type the whole links into your address bar)
