Cat pooping on new carpet

Question
Good morning,

I need helping stoping my cat from pooping on my new family room carpet. My 2 year old cat has been pooping on my carpet on and off for a couple of weeks. We have 2 dogs also living in the house and they have been eating the poop in the mornings if they beat me down stairs. She still continues to pee and occasionally poop in the liter box. The liter box is in a quiet area where the dogs cannot get to. I am surprised that she is pooping in the highest traffic area of the house. She only does this at night, never during the day and we have never seen her do this. The carpet is new and very plush. I keep her litter box very clean and we use Swheat Scoop cat litter. No changes at the house except the carpet several months ago. Obviously, I can't have the cat pooping in the area the kids play in and I am worried that we will not be able to change this behavior. I can't have a litter box on the main floor because the dogs won't leave it alone. Any thoughts or suggestions you could provide would be greatly appreciate. Oh, we already took her to the vet to rule out any health issue. She received a clean bill of health.

Answer
Dear Stacy,

If she is not fixed, this is why. She is marking her territory. Other wise, she likes the material of the carpet. So get a water gun, fill it with cold water and spray her a few times when she poops on the carpet. Scream no no to her. She will stop, and to to the litter box. This is all I can do. I'm sorry, because cats often do this. Bye.
