cat, itchy skin

Question
Hi Tomay,

Please help me!!!
I have a 1.5 year old cat. She started to have itchy skin on her back about one year ago. We took her to the vet, she gave her a steroide shot, and said the cat may have allergy to something, since all the skin test she performed came out negative for diseases, worms, etc. First, we suspected food allergy, so we changed the cat's diet to Healthy Choice (not an ad!). I washed her back with a hydrocortisone shampoo in every two days, and applied a hydrocortisone spray. She got better, all the symptoms disappeared. However, last night, all the nighmare started again. Her back is itching so badly, that she can not be touched. She is running around like crazy, and I found traces of feces on the carpet. I am sure she did that because of the pain she has. She would have never done such thing before.

Please let me know what you think I should do.
Thank you.

Answer
Thank you for your inquiry.  This sounds like it may, again, be a medical problem. These types of problems are usually associated with food allergies.  You might try a food like 'Precise' (found at your better pet shops) as this is a food that is specifically for skin and coat problems.  My shorthaired domestic cat had very flaky skin and this food did amazing things with his coat and skin.  Worth a try, anyway.  Other than that, perhaps another vet visit is in order.
Good luck with this kitty..
