kitten health and dying

Question
we had 4 kittens for about 1 week now.  their mother birthed them and fed them for appox. 2.5-3 weeks and disappeared.  we moved them into the house and began bottle feeding with replacement milk, all four seemed to be doing well; playing and eating alot urinating when stimulated and frequent bowel movements.  last night about 1.5 hours after one of the evening feedings one of the larger kittens was just laying on the floor unresponsive.  i picked it up and it jerked like it had been asleep then basically faded away.  i checked the mouth and throat and they were clear but a slimy white paste covered the exterior of her mouth.  now this morning one of the other kittens seems to be experiencing blindness or disorientation.  i fed her but she seemed to not know what to do it was very difficult to keep her focused on eating. when she would hear the other two playing she would run their direction and try to play.  their stomaches are not rigid and i gave her an enima as prescribed by the vet years ago for these types of rescue situations but with no result.  any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Well first, very kind of you to take these motherless kittens in :)

I don't think there's anything to worry about, concerning the unresponsive kitten, if all has returned to normal. Kittens sleep heavily, and I've often found. Keep watching, like you are and have been, and you'll notice if there are any other problems.

As for the kitten who was acting blind, I'm not sure there's anything at all you can do. If the problem hasn't disappeared over the last couple of days, you should contact a vet. Is it possible that he could have gotten into any type of chemical?

It is generally best to give enema in a vets' office, as when kittens are so small you could rupture their intestines....but, as long as you are very gentle with the syringe, there shouldn't be a problem. Have the kittens been suffering from constipation?
In any case, you sound like you're doing a great job.

If you notice any other odd signs, like vomiting, diarrhea, or other concerning symptoms, contact your vet!
Best Wishes...happy mothers day!
