I don't know where on your cat is the mat. However there are a few things you can do. The easiest is to just take a pair of scissors and cut it off. Be careful. If there is a lot of cat hair that is knotted you just might want to shave the cat down. Best to take the cat to a groomer. Or you can try a dematting comb.
