Problems after having carpet shampooed

Question
I have a Burmese cat (spayed female) who has always had a healthy appetite, was "talkative" but not overly so and loves to play and snuggle.  Last week, I had the carpets in the house shampooed and since then, she hardly eats and she have a very plaintiff meow - almost constantly.  She retreats under the bed (which was not shampooed) instead of sleeping on the couch or chest where she has always slept.  She still seems very healthy, is still playful, etc. but I just worry about the little amount she eats and her meowing.  Is this just because "her" smell is gone from the house or should she be checked by the vet?

Any ideas - I'm worried about her.

Thanks!!

Answer
Dear Cheryl, thank you so much for your question.

A cat eats its food based on the smell. If the cat cannot smell the food he will not eat it. It is important that your cat eats something by the end of two days otherwise your pet may be in danger. Therefore, never let your cat go more than two days without eating. There are ways to get your sick cat to eat.

I suggest that you might not spray and shampoo on the carpet. Your cat might have an allergy and be allergic to the shampoo used on the carpet. I recommend you take your cat to the vet just in case, this always is a good idea. Your vet has a better understanding and might be able to make a diagnoses.

Otherwise I suggest for the time being you might separate your cat from the shampooed carpet. Then you can try to get your cat to eat and drink so his health is good then I recommend seeing a vet.

Sincerely,

Ben
