cat in heat and peeing on everything

Question
I have a cat who is 7 years old. She has been living with my mom ever since we got her. I have recently moved into an apt. which allows pets so I took the cat. My mom had 6 cats and this one didn't get along with any of them. My mom is a very messy person (to put it nicely) and all her cats peed on everything. This cat was not as bad as the others. I have had her for a month now and she has just gone in heat. She has begun peeing on everything like the guitar, clothes, bags.... I am a clean person, I keep her litter box nice and clean and I have children. I am also not a stranger to my cat as I live near my mom and am always at my mom's house everyday. Is there any way I can fix this behavior? Otherwise she has got to go.

Answer
Hi Jennifer.  Spaying her will definitely eliminate the urination outside the litterbox.  Spaying also eliminates a pyometra (deadly uteran infection) from occuring and reduces the chances of her developing mammary/uteran cancers by 98%.  When a cat is not spayed/neutered, they will urinate on everything because they have the natural instinct of marking their territory.  If she would be spayed, I'm sure you would see a drastic change for the better, as this is a very natural and common problem for unspayed cats.
I hope this helps!
