Question
Hope you can help. Our 13 year old Cocker Spaniel has a bad habit of chewing on her feet.  She does it all the time but fortunatly she doesnt chew badly enough to bleed or chew her fur off.  Any ideas what's going on or what we can do to make her stop?

Thanks,
Tom

Answer
Foot chewing and licking is a consistent feature of allergies in the dog.  Their feet are constantly exposed to allergens from the grass and carpeting, which makes them itch. There may also be a secondary infection in between the toes with a yeast or bacteria.  Have your vet check the dog to see if there are allergies and/or infection.
