Question
I have a 2 year old female beagle. She has a small scab on one of her nipples. We think she may have had a false pregnancy but not for sure. I am just a little concerned about this and am curious on what this is, and should she go to the vet? And I am also curious about how much she sleeps, she is always sleeping. I have several dogs and she sleeps more than any of them, its like thats all she does is sleep? Should this concern me?? Thanks for taking the time to read this and I would greatly appreciate a response. Again thanks so much.

Answer
I don't know if this dog is spayed or not as you didn't say, but if she is not then I would have her evaluated for pyometra. Some false pregnancies can lead to this. The cure is spaying her, which should be done at this point.

The scab on the nipple most likely has nothing to do with any of this unless they were swollen and could have gotten infected with mastitis. That is not as common with a false pregnancy as it is with an actual lactating bitch.

But if her energy levels are poor and she isn't spayed, it is time to make an appointment for the vets. Low grade infections can rob you of any energy.
You should also evaluate her diet and switch to a better food if she isn't getting her energy needs met, but a vet exam is in order here first.
