Question
I Jennifer, you say that exist some ways to cycle a aquarium and one of them is using one fish to complete the cycle, my Question is, if i can use a clown fish for it, or what fish do you recommend.

And when is the best time for make my first partial water change. Tks

Answer
Hello Jerry,

I have tried to answer the question before on using a fish to help with the starting and cycling of an aquarium, and the short answer is no.

as for your question on water changes.

I would not do a water change until you start seeing Nitrates in the test results.

To cover the beginning test requirements...

I suggest testing for Nitrites daily, *no more then every other day
After one week, or when you start seeing Nitrites starting to climb, start testing for Ammonia.
If your ammonia starts getting high, then start testing for nitrates.

you should see nitrites drop to zero shortly after seeing nitrates.

Your ammonia should drop also, but may not drop to zero right away.

the goal is to develop sufficient biological media to be able to consume the ammonia.

Good luck

Mr. Bill
