Liner sealant

On 6/23/06 someone asked a question about enlarging their pond and wondered how they should seal the pieces of liner together. They asked if aquarium sealant could be used. In your answer, you stated they should definitely not use aquarium sealant.

We were also thinking of enlarging our current pond. Could you please explain why using aquarium sealant (pure silicon)is not a good idea to piece together the liner. Does it not hold up underwater for any length of time or is it dangerous to the fish?

If it's not suitable for enlarging the pond is it also not suitable for small repairs?

Hi there!

Aquarium sealant is made for different materials; usually glass or acrylic, and pond liners are made out of vinyl.
Since it is used in aquariums, it wouldn't be toxic to fish.

For small repairs I still would use the seam tape provided by the same people who sell liners.
