Question
I have recently started fishless cycling my new tank, actually, this is my second day, but I think I overdosed my ammonia and I'm not sure if it will work well.

This is my journal about what happened to me so far. It was looking good until I overdosed the ammonia... Please tell me if I should make a water change now or just wait it out. Also any help on anything you see that I've done wrong, please tell me how to fix it. Thanks in advance, Garrett

Answer
Garret:

Thanks for your question, I'll try to help.

I would not worry too much about the ammonia addition. Lets things settle a bit and all should be good. I don't think water changes are needed at this point.

Believe it or not I generally cycle a new tank by tossing in a few raw shrimp from the market and waiting 2 or 3 weeks.

I rarely test at the beginning. If you enjoy the technical side of the hobby then all power to you, but don't stress too much.

In summary just let things settle for a bit.
