red ear sliders

Question
I have 2 red ear sliders for a few years and suddenly the male became very aggressive biting both me & my other turtle. I want to separate them but do not have room for another tank (both turtles are quite large). So I wanted to use some sort of screen to separate the two. How can i do this safely?

Answer
Hey Lessya,

You need to get a plastic tank divider from your local fish supply store. Set the basking lamp right over the middle of that divider, and get two small floating basking platforms. you'll need two water filters, or a tank divider that has water flow between the two halves. If you get a solid tank divider, and wish to only use one water filter, drill some holes into the divider to allow for water flow.

Once you have the tank set up, just be sure there's a lot of water (perhaps 6-8 inches deep each half, instead of the typical 3-5 inches). The added water space will give them a place to escape the heat of the basking lamp, now that they dont have as much room to roam around.

Other then that, just try to mimic your current set up, just smaller!

Hope this helps out! best wishes.
