Question
i have a pair of blood red parrots in my 67 gallon tank with other fish. they live in one corner of the thank where i have made a rock cave for them. however they keep on digging up the substrate all the time. in fact right now i can see the glass bottom in the cave. they have removed all the substrate! why do they do this? its really frustrating!! also the male has a few black spots on his fins and above his eyes. they were not there earlier. could the black spots be bruises? he keeps banging on the rocks.  the other parrot doesnt have them neither do any of the other fishes

Answer
Hi Kunal Singh, I have a blood parrot my self and mine does the same thing. It moves all the rocks around in my tank to his liking. But it does sound like you have a good set up for them. Depending on what kind of substrate you have in your tank you might want to add some heavier substrate so they can't move it as easily but the won't hurt themselves by moving the substrate they are just trying to get used to their surroundings. Also the black spots are normal blood parrots are supposed to change colors as they age and depending on how they feel. They will go from white to orange to black and change colors frequently. Good Luck!
