Question
Hi Chris
I wrote you the other day about my black telescope goldfish. Well my husband changed the water last night, but i was wondering if there is any sort of medicine we can give the fish? Also i was wondering why the other goldfish isn't sick? Is it because she is just a normal goldfish? Thank you very much!

Answer
Hi Julia;

Fancy goldfish aren't as strong as regular goldfish, that's very true. They are inbred to get all those wonderful shapes and colors and the downside is a weaker fish on some level. There can be varying reactions among a tank of fish of any kind anyway. Eventually the toxins would bother the stronger fish too, it's just that the weaker ones show it first.

The whitish eyes may be infected, but watch them and see if they improve from the water changes alone. If they improve, don't medicate. Unless the fish are showing signs of an infection there isn't any medication that will help. Watch for redness, whitish or greyish fuzziness, sores, etc. These are signs that the irritated skin has been attacked by infection. Medication can actually cause more irritation if they aren't really infected. It will burn the sore spots.

Followups welcome
