QuestionI have just discovered and separated 75+ babies and their parents from the rest of the tank in a small breeding net,so far mom and dad have been very protective and mom even re-located some of the young using her mouth. will the parents eventually eat their young? if so when should I remove parents from the safety netting?
AnswerHi Tom,
Many cichlids are excellent parents. In fact, watching them do their thing is the best part of keeping cichlids as far as I am concerned.
I leave the parents with the kids for about 3 weeks or so, sometimes much longer.
