my fish are dying!!!

Please help me! I make usual trips to the pet shop to try and get nice colored fish for my fish tank. However, whenever I put the fish in my fish tank, a few hours later they are all dead! I asked the pet shop owner what was wrong and he said the pH was probably too high. He recommended getting fish that are used to living in a high pH. I did, and again, within a few hours they were dead. Right now, I only have one fish living in the tank. He is a parrot fish named Pete. I don't really want anymore parrot fish because they get very big. Are there any other kinds of fish I can get?

Hi Corinne,
  The pH likely has nothing to do with it.  Is Pete large (how large is he)?  If so, it is very possible that Pete is killing the new fish.  Also, what kind of fish have you been putting in there?
