Answer
Theresa,
Either there is a food source there and he has nothing else to eat, or the rest of your tank is too cold. (Or both) Get two or three thermometers and place them in even spaces in your tank, and make sure your tank is warm enough. It should be between 75-85 degrees F. If not, buy another heater, or keep your tank in a warmer room (though never near a window).
If that is not the problem, he may be starving and there could be some algae or something else stuck to the heater. I recommend buying alage wafers and some cucumbers, then going home and turning your heater off, let it sit for about 10 minutes, and remove it and clean it off thoroughly with a damp washcloth (NO chemicals) then replacing it and turning it back on, and start feeding your pleco cucumbers and algae wafers alternating every other day. (Algae wafers one day, Cucumber the next)
You only need one slice of cucumber, and don't leave it in your tank for longer than four hours.
Make sure you have a large enough tank for a pleco - they live for quite a long time and grow MUCH larger than 6 inches (adult length maxes out at around 2 feet). If you have anything under 55 gallons, you don't have a large enough tank, so you should start saving up so you can upgrade and keep your fish in a suitable home. (You wouldn't want to be confined to a closet all your life, right?)
That should do it. Best of luck to you.
