Topped Field/Rushes

Question
Hi

We are just about to have the field topped, not much grass just now, but plenty of Rushes.  I wonder if it's Ok to let the 'boys' back in the field straight away, or do we need to  clear the debris? We have an Irish Draft X and a Shetland.

Look forward to your advice and comments.

Thanks

Penny

Answer
Hi Penny,

I can't see any problem provided the Rushes aren't poisonous.  Without knowing exactly what species of plant the rushes are it's hard to be specific, but as long as they are not poisonous - especially after being cut, it should be fine.

If in doubt, contact your local Dept of Agriculture.
