Question
hello sir, what are the signs of fever in horses?

Answer
Hi Caine,

Thank you for your question.  The best way to determine if your horse has a fever is to take it's temperature using a rectal thermometer.  The normal range of body temperature for a healthy horse is 99-101 degrees fahrenheit. Above this temperature can be considered abnormal and should be addressed by your veterinarian.  Fever is a symptom of many health issues, so it can be accompanied by many other signs or symptoms depending on the original problem.  Fever can be accompanied by listlessness or depression in the horse, loss of appetite.  Essentially, fever is a sign of sickness, and doesn't necessarily have it's own individual signs of existence.

I hope that helps.

Thanks, Corlena
