young gelding

I have recently been loaned a young gelding. He is very timid and will only just let me put a halter on him. What would be the next step to breaking him in?

If he is very timid waving your arm is good starting pressure-wave, pet, wave, pet etc., then move to a plastic bag at the end of a stick. Walk backwards and make him come toward you on the line while you shake the bag. You are trying to show him that the thing he is worried about is always moving away. Be careful to start slowly, shaking softly. Once you have this going for you write me again and we will go to the next step.
