Pregnant Horses

Question
I have had horses all my life, but have never bred one till this year in June. I took a leap and bred both my mares. First I couldn't justify the $150.00 it would take to confirm the pregnancies so I'm just watching. They are 5 1/2 months and both have lopsided bellies. Is that a fair assumption they took? Is there any other old methods of confirming their pregnant?

Answer
Dear Lurene,
There is no old method that would confirm there pregnancies that i know of, But yes it SEEMS that they are pregnant, if they are getting lazier and eat more then that is more signs to watch for. We breed horses allot and the cost of getting them all checked would bankrupt us, the only old way is to wait for that expanding belly.
Hope i helped
