W tongue control bit

Question
I did a google search for the W tongue control bit and came up blank - is there another name?
My trainer has a "serena song" bit - another trainer showed us a similar bit that was a bar with moving tongue gadget that she said is less severe (got it from a friend in KY and didn't know the name) - she also said she feels the "serena song" being a broken bit, pinches a horses tongue.
Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Annette.
I don't know of any other name for it, unfortunately. I do have a couple suggestions though. Have you tried a tongue tie? They are widely available in leather and various fabrics; you can even make your own out of old pantyhose or knee highs.
Big Dee's has this bit for sale:

Another alternative is to have your blacksmith make one for you. You would need a piece of metal or sturdy wire that the blacksmith would shape into a W form, with a piece (bracket) on each side for a leather or nylon strap to go through. Your harness shop would then take a piece of leather or nylon and run it from one side to the other. It will have to be long enough for the strap to run up the side of the horse's head, behind his ears and down the other side of his face to the bracket on that side. With the bit in the horse's mouth, it will look almost like he has another race halter on.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
