Question
Hi.  I have a 12 yr old grey thoroughbred.  He has some small lumps under his tail.  I have been looking into sarcoids and melanoma however cannot seem to find any pictures.  They are under the skin, don't seem to be painful to him, have not oozed or broken.  Also he has a baseball sized lump on the side of his neck, also under the skin, also doesn't bother him, there IS hair on it and hasn't gotten any bigger or smaller (he had it when I got him and I was told that he had a bad needle and that it was scar tissue)  Is there any way that I could send pictures ?  I really appreciate any help anyone can give.  THANK YOU!!!

Answer
hi kate,
well i would need to know more by seeing pictures, you can send them to follysjetfil@yahoo.com
as far as i can tell they are dormant lumps. dormant lumps and bumps are fine, just somewhat unsightly. with the scare tissue i have never seen a horse have a bump under the skin. it couls be ab abcess but if its not getting soft and isnt painful then it cant really be an abcess. if it doesnt bother him then i wouldnt worry about it. unless it bothers you that much i would have a vet look at him. theres a possibility it could just be scare tissue. but iv given alot of shots and have never had that happen. i can send you pictures of melanoma, i just need your e-mail. you can send this to me by e-mail so your address is kept private.
