Question
QUESTION: Hey Judi, I have a 16 TB she was rescued from starvation and has had colic twice. She is putting on weight and i have her on a formulated diet for older horses and hay on tap. Holly's problem is every 21 days she has pain where it causes her to wine and kick at the fence and rub her right rump on the fence she also lets out a milky white discharge. Her urine flow decreases to a minimum and strains she is on 8wks of bromotrimidine powder twice daily and also has inflammatries when experiencing pain my suspicion is overies inflamming and causing uretha also to swell hence the min urine flow she also has had urine test to show calcium in her urine. and crystalization present in the urine. Holly is in Australia  any answers would be appreiated.

ANSWER: Hi Pauline - Wow, I wish that repro was my strong point but it's really not.  I know that ovarian issues can cause some very bizarre behavior in mares.  At the barn I work at, there is a beautiful TB mare that had so much pain and was behaving in such a dangerous manner that she eventually had an ovariectomy ... she had her ovaries removed completely and it made her a completely different horse.  With all that said, Holly's problems should really be examined by a clinic that specializes in reproduction so that they can do a thorough exam including ultrasound.  The symptoms you describe are much too involved for this site.

I wish you the best of luck and applaud your efforts to get Holly some help!

Thank you!!
Judi

Answer
Pauline, this is great news about her pending appointment ... would love to hear from you about how it goes and what they advise.

I loved your testimony and and truly believe that God can work through horses like this to bring us closer to Him.  When I first started my rehab facility in Colorado in the late 90's, I faced some harsh criticism from one vet in particular at Colorado State's Vet Hospital.  After praying with my Sunday School class for these vet's at the school to have the peace and confidence they needed to trust me with the after-care of the horses in their care, I received my very first patient from the Vet School.  Believe it or not, this first case came from the critical clinician!!  But the best part of this testimony is that the name of the patient ... a racing bred 2 year old Quarter horse filly out of New Mexico ... was Amazing Grace!

There is nothing better than knowing you are in God's will and to see His hand so clearly just as you are with Holly.  Your news made my day Pauline ... I look forward to hearing from you in January.

I wish you a very blessed Christmas holiday :)
