grabbing the bit at trot

Question
hello Shelly. how are you? I have a question for you.

May i know whether horses grab the bit even at trot or only at canter and gallop?

Answer
Dear Rohit,
Horse that "grab at the bit" are trying to avoid contact- this is usually because they either have never been trained to accept working on contact or because they are trying to avoid the pain inflicted by people riding with bad hands and or too severe/ ill fitting bits. This is very common in lesson horses to have to put up with inexperienced riders balancing off of their hands and causing pain as a result.
