disaster with a ferrier on miniature horse

Question
Hello, I am living in Switzerland in a remote area with only 1 ferrier. I have had what I believe to be a "hatchet " job  on my 2 miniature horses and donkey. I have taken photos and sent them to a woman that is a ferrier in the States, she is horrified and cant believe they are still standing.. could you please have a look at 2 of the worst horses and let me know if it is as bad as this woman is telling me . I am seriously thinking about flying her here to correct the problem once  the hoof grows out , but I would like another oppinion before I do this . The method used here is with a wedge and mallot...from heel to toe. My Swiss Husband says these ferriers have had 3 years of training and are better than all American ferriers for this reason, I find it hard to believe that this is the end result of 3 years of training . Can I please send some photos , or I will post them on my Facebook  profile and you can have a look there .
Thank you ,
Kristen Torkington

Answer
HELLO KRISTEN...THANK YOU FOR YOUR QUESTION...

You can send me photos if you choose. I can evaluate them and tell you what I think.

It is VERY common in Switzerland, Germany, parts of France to use a
chisel and mallet...that is what it is called. Under normal proced-
ures there is no problems with trimming that way. That is the way it is taught in many parts of Europe. In the United States it is always
done with a sole knife and nippers.

The system which is used in England is a very good system, but they now accept our C.J.F. "certified journeyman farrier" testing as
acceptable. We are NOT behind in our education. Most of the young farriers who come here from Europe, Asia and South America are far superior to many Europeans. That is a fact.

With 3 yrs. training; NO FARRIER would "destroy" a horses hooves, unless he/she just doesn't care.

Since you found someone who might travel to you to help you...why
need my opinion??  Many like myself with many qualifications could help you. Is this woman certified? Where did she train? Who did she train with? Can she prove what she tells you??

Those things should be explored and checked before spending or wasting money on "an opinion". I'd make sure first.
Also...maybe a veterinarian should have been called in and looked over the situation...just a thought!!

Thank again for reaching me, and listening to me.
Best to You...
