turtle egg incubation period

Question
Watched as a painted turle dug a hole and laid 9 eggs this morning, then scooted back to our pond.  Any idea how long the incubation period will be?  We live in southeast Iowa.  Thanks!  We're hoping to be lucky enough to watch the young ones head to the pond!

Answer
I'm glad I can answer the question of a fellow Iowan!

It is fantastic to see baby turtles, and you should be looking out for some activity between 60 to 70 days. Hatching times can vary somewhat based on climate. Don't forget that it is possible that the eggs are unfertilized and won't hatch at all. There are a number of things that could happen, baby turtles have a hard fight to survive their youth!
