vomiting sugar glider

Question
I am worried about my 7 month old male glider.  He has been doing really well, and now we introduced a female into his cage.  They are bonding well, but when we take the male out of the cage he seems to be vomiting on the bonding pouch. What is going on?  Everything else seems normal with his behavior.  Should I be worried?
Thanks,
Cheryl

Answer
Dear Cheryl:

Introducing a new glider can be a stressful time for both gliders, but it should not involve or induce vomiting.  Any time a sugar glider is vomiting you should be worried.  Now, that being said, stay cool -- you wrote "he seems to be vomiting" are you sure he is vomiting?
Could he just be spitting out pieces of chewed up food on the pouch or have you actually observed him vomiting?  If so, he needs to see an exotics vet.  There are a variety of reasons for vomiting.  It could be illness, seizures, having eaten something toxic or some other problem.  I am not a vet and have no way of diagnosing him.  However, vomiting is not normal and should be checked out immediately by a qualified exotics vet.  So if you actually observe him vomiting, then yes, you should have it checked out.

Best of luck with your little boy.
