Question
My 11 year old daughter has had a male hairless rat since 12/2006 and tonight he looked different so we got him out and he acts like he is having trouble breathing and his bottom teeth are protruding out.  The exotic vet recommended we keep him in a room with a window open and a vaporizer on and she will se him tomorrow at 10 a.m. Is there anything else we can do, he is truly a member of our family andmy daughter is hysterical.

Answer
I wouldn't keep a window open, personally; the draft would be detrimental if its too extreme. Instead, try partially covering his cage; using a humidifer near the cage to encourage easier breathing. Offer him soft foods he won't have to work too hard at to chew, and keep everything within close reach of him so that he doesn't have to put forth much effort to eat/drink. (If he'll take treats, try offering him a bit of dark chocolate -- that may help his respiratory distress, but only temporarily)
