strange behavior of a hairless rattie

Question
Hello,
I have two female hairless rats, Bianca is 9 months and Bailey is 8 months. They are both intact and I got them from a hobby breeder. They have a very big cage 4.6' x 2.6 x 1.6'; with four levels. I use kaytee soft-sorb with natural rose for litter. I give them a diet from a recipe I got from this website, which they love. I only feed them once a day, right before I go to bed, I tried feeding them twice a day, but they just wasted it. I socialize with them as much as possible, which isn't as often as I'd like due to the holidays, about 4 or 5 times a week for anywhere from 2 - 8 hours(they usually just hang out in my sweater). Okay so here is the question, when I'm greeted by Bianca, who reminds me very much of a little dog, she'll let me rub on her awhile (through the cage), then she'll climb on my fingers and try usually with success to pee on me. It's only when I pet her through the cage and now Bailey does it. I was just wondering if you knew why she does this? Any information on this is greatly appreciated. Oh, one more question are the Greenworks cleaning products made by Clorox safe to use around rats? Is there something that I can make at home with bleach or vinegar that is better for them or safer?
Thank you so much for your time and answer,
Jen

Answer
They love you! Female rats have the annoying and often disgusting habit of peeing on people to make them their property. It's gross, yes, but its love. They're marking you.

I have no idea if the Greenworks products are safe - usually as long as you use them in a well ventilated area and rinse very very well, pretty much anything is safe, but if you want -- stick with vinegar and water. I use one part vinegar to three parts water.

Enjoy your girls.. Hairless' are so much fun!
