Moufettes tumour

Question
Hi Sandra,

New thread as I ran out of follow-ups! Thanks for responding so quickly and providing me with various options for the possible treatment of Moufette's tumour. Right now Moufette does not seem to be losing weight and still has a good appetite. In fact yesterday evening I was trying to catch a "daddy longlegs" in the house which I intended to humanely put outside. This activity was around the rat cage and it somehow ended up inside - Moufette promptly swatted it with her paw and ate the whole thing!

Th vet you indicate is in Ottawa which is an 11 hour drive from Fredericton, so I will try to use a local vet for a possible surgery.

On your website, my children really liked the section on hermit crabs - they were fascinated by the photos of hermit crabs attaching themselves to bottle tops when they ran out of available shells. Where we spend summer vacation on the Bay of Chaleur hermit crabs are plentiful and the kids like to observe them. I assume that when they outgrow their shell they have to move to another larger one, so your point to limit the collection of available shells is well put.

Thanks again for everything,

Peter

Answer
Hi

Thanks for the ratings.....but I did want to ask...How am I not knowledgeable on this subject?  You gave me a really low score on the ratings for that category. Just curious....not only did I spend time finding a vet for you,*ok so my geography stinks...LOL...(now that I know how far that is from you I may be able to find one close) but I am very knowledgeable about mammary tumors and the information I provided about lupron, tamixofen, the cost of baytril etc... is accurate information.  I dont understand how I lacked knowledge or did not describe anything to you in great detail.  I apologize if I confused you in any way.

Glad you liked the story about the hermit crabs. I have had my four for years now. They are "touch me not" pets but they are still interesting.  They are much smarter than we think, too, and they actually know me, they know when its feeding time etc....they trust me enough to change shells in front of me.  Yes they change shells as they grow, but once they get as big as mine are they slow down. They are nearly base ball size. YIKES!

Thats funny about the Daddy long leg spider.  We had a nasty wold spider in the rat room, I was freaking out, not wanting to kill it but wanting it back outside, but I lost it. It is nasty, I worried it would bite the rats not thinking they would pull it apart leg by leg.  EW.
Thanks for writing to all experts.  Take care.
