Nervous New Rat

Question
I got a new 9 month old boy, in the tank at his breeders he was curious/outgoing, but when I tried to pick him up he shrieked and his breeder had to grab him by the base of the tail/chest and manhandle him into my crate. He's still shrieking every time I pick him up and struggling. Should I have him neutered? I think he's a pretty stressed out nervous guy in general, his breeder didn't seem suprised by his behavior.

Answer
It seems that this rat wasn't handled at all when it was younger, if the rat was handled as a baby from the breeder it wouldn't be acting out in this fashion. The only think you can do is hold the rat everyday for 20-30 minutes to get him to come out of his shell. Or return the rat for a refund. and Get another rat from a different breeder who actually handles their babies.

I honestly if I was in your shoes would have walked away from the breeder without the rat, rats will act the same way at the breeders, pet store and etc.. Like they will act once you bring them home, I'm sorry you got the short end of the stick here.

Neutering won't do any good, again this is from not being handled from a birth.  I would return him. Or you can keep him and work on him everyday.
