Introducing mice

Question
Hi Natasha.

I have four mice in two groups of two. The first group are about 1 year old and the second group are about 8 months old. I would like to introduce them to each other, however one of the mice in the first group has a tumor (confirmed by a vet). Her behavior hasn't changed; she still eats, drinks and happily runs on her wheel. Do you think I will still be able to introduce them or are the younger mice likely to hurt her?

Thank you.

Answer
Dear Alice,

It is unlikely that the other mice will react to the tumor. Just put them together in the usual way (clean cage; no toys; real vanilla on rumps and necks), expect chasing and squeaking, and watch out for the usual things (bleeding; depression; someone can't get to wheel, food, or nest).

squeaks n giggles,

Natasha
