Aggression during heat cycle..will it last?

Question
Hello,

I have Siberian Husky pup who is going through her first cycle and we also have an older spayed female in the house.  They have lived together since the puppy was 8 weeks old and they have never fought aggressively.  Now that the puppy is into the middle of her cycle she has become extremely aggressive towards our older dog, growling when the older dog comes near her, or near the food dish, or her sleeping area.  They have had 3 aggressive fights, all under normal circumstances they would not be fighting.  My questions is will this aggression continue even after her cycle is over with?  We are keeping our dogs separated for the time being, and when our puppy gets aggressive we show dominance over her.  We don't hit her or beat her, but we hover over her and hold her down making her submit to us.  What would you suggest to make this sensitive time for her more comfortable.  We are serious about breeding her, and this is why we have not had her spayed.

Thanks for your time,

Vicktoria

Answer
This is a normal behavior-think of the hormone shift women get during their cycle.  Same kind of idea.  I have found the best form of management is to keep them separate.  I have females that do the same thing, and generally go back to the normal temperament after the cycle is over.

Be careful causing her to submit like that, as it tends to bring out MORE aggression rather than teaching them it is inappropriate.
