Unusual hearing problem

Question
I have a dog that has a very unusual hearing problem. When certain commercials or tv shows come on, he goes into this very loud howling fit. I know it's not the volume of the tv as he only does this with particular commercials or shows(i.e. Hotwire.com commercials, FreeCreditReport.com commercials, the theme song to the show 'Reba', etc).  Even with the tv on 'soft mute'!  Our local vet has never heard of this before and can't offer us any info other than it's a personality disorder.  I have been unable to find anyone online that has had a similar situation.  What can be causing this and how can it be remedied?

Answer
Dogs certainly hear stuff that is above or below the range that humans hear. Perhaps that is what is going on. My dogs howl at sirens going by. So did the wolves and hybrids that used to live behind us (but that was a much more melodic sound) One thought is that they may be trying to hit the same note so it doesn't bother their ears, another is that they may be accompanying the song. At any rate, I probably wouldn't worry about it. And if that's the only odd behavior I wouldn't suspect a "personality disorder." You can always completely mute the offending commercials.
