Question
Which would do better with an older, female black lab, a male or female puppy?  I've found someone who has only 2 12 week old males left from a litter of 10 and someone who has a litter of 6 week old males and females.

Answer
If all the pups have nice temperaments, and their parents were screened for genetic diseases such as hip dysplasia and eye problems that are all too common in Labs, then in my opinion, your best chance for success would be to opt for a male from the younger litter.  At 12 weeks, the first litter has already passed the period of optimal socialization, but the younger pups have not.  Thus, you can get your puppy right in to a positive puppy kindergarten experience very early and see to it that he gets all the experiences he needs.
