Question
Hello! I have a 3 1/2 year old Pit Bull/Italian Greyhound mix. I have a few problems with him that I really need help with. One of my biggest problems is him jumping on people when they come into my apartment. He doesn't do this to me, however he does it to my roommate and everyone else. He is super excited for the first 10 minutes but then he will settle down. I hired a dog trainer for an hour lesson and she had me keep him on a leash and basically distract him with doing tricks for treats until he settled down. I am not really a fan of reinforcing good behavior with treats, I prefer the training methods of Cesar Millan. I know that a lot of his problems steam from my misguidence, but I need to correct that. I see dogs all the time that will sit and stay as my dog and I walk by, but my dog would never do that. He does not listen unless he wants to. I need to be able to take more control. Any suggestions for helping me break these bad habits? Thanks!
