Housebreaking a Rescue Collie

Question
I got a lovely 4 year old female Collie from the Rescue.  She was being used as a breeder dog in a puppy mill.  She's been with me now for 6 weeks.  Apparently she wasn't housebroken when I got her, so I've been working towards no peeing/pooping in the house.  She's got the no peeing down well.  It's the pooping that she seems to not be able to stop.  I've taken her out every 90 minutes for 3 days, giving her treats and praising.  She did respond to that, but now she seems to have fallen back. She won't tell me when she's got to go out.  Any suggestions you could give would be greatly appreciated.  Best Regards.

Answer
Hello Carole,

The only thing I'd suggest is not giving her treats and regulating her food intake.  The treats may be too rich for her and make her go sooner than expected.  Verbal praise should be enough.  Feeding her at regular times will give you a better idea of when she'll need to go outside.  A four year old dog shouldn't need very much food, especially if you buy the quality brands like Science Diet or something similar.  Until you have a system going, she might have a few more accidents.  Don't give up, you're almost there!
