2yr collie started weeing in kitchen

Question
QUESTION: Hi, our collie is 2 this mth and is house trained but has started weeing in the kitchen again just recently. we have been told about getting rid of the scent and all that but i don't think its that thats the problem i think it is an obedience thing. he used to do it every wed last yr, the morning after dog training. its like he didn't like doing as he was told and protested. anyway that stopped when we stopped going to obedience but know it has started again he knows he has done bad because if he hasn't made a mess he's happy to see us in the morning and jumping round but if he's made a mess he'll stay in his bed quietly. i don't hit him i just point at it and say nevins (his name) and he just puts his head down. how can i stop him doing it? its really annoying now getting up to that, he is let out at night before bed and sometimes he does a mess sometimes he doesn't although it seems to be getting worse not better. it seems like your lucky if he hasn't made a mess now. please help! thank you
ANSWER: Hello Emma,

Before getting too disappointed, I would take your dog to a vet to be checked for a possible bladder infection.  Those can come and go and cause this type of problem.  After a clean bill of health, then maybe work on the training.  You might not be taking him out enough.  Or perhaps you'll have to limit water intake during certain times when you are unable to take him out more often.

Hope this helps.

QUESTION: Hi sorry i posted this question in the ratings bit. thanks for your time!
Hi thanks i'll certainly try that! not sure if that is the problem though it seems to be when we go to bed early he gets annoyed my husband has been off work since last wed and he hasn't done it as we've been going to bed later. its actually been dry in the kitchen for 4 days now. but i certainly get him checked out to make sure he's ok. what do you suggest i do if it is an obedience problem? thanks again

Answer
Hello Emma,

If indeed your dog comes back with a clean bill of health, it is still unlikely to be an obedience problem.  Rather, it would be considered a behavioral problem.  Your dog may be rebelling or he may be showing his dominance by marking his domain.  Either way, you'll have to take some steps in rehabilitating your dog so that he no longer feels the need to relieve himself in your home.

Your husband and you together need to discipline your dog consistantly and let him know this behavior will not be tolerated.  Get together and communicate a plan of action and decide on an acceptable form of discipline for your dog.  Then carry it out each and every time you catch him making a mess in your home.

Thank you for your question.
