Question
I really want a dog, I'm sure the rest of my family does too, butt my parents say that they are too expensive and that when we go to college, they don't want to be stuck with an old dog.But I REALLY want a dog. A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, to be exact.HELP!

Answer
How old are you?  A dog can live 15 years.  Every puppy deserves to go to a home where it will enjoy the company and love of the people it bonds with all its life.  I occasionally take my puppies to events at the university here.  I am inevitably surrounded by students in deep dog withdrawal.  I am sure many of them were the primary caregivers and companions of the family dog.  Once you graduate, likely you will be working a job taking you away from home most of the day and living in an apartment.  Most apartments forbid pets, and the ones that allow them, are often more expensive.

Look into a rescue.  These are dogs that lost their home, but were taken into a foster home to be retrained as necessary and placed in the right home for them. You may find a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel rescue near you starting at http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm The rescues charge a fee to help cover their expenses, but is much less than the price of a puppy plus all its medical expenses the first year.  There is an older Cavalier King Charles Spaniel out there that will be killed for lack of a home.  It should be much easier to convince your parents you need to give it a home.
