Older cocker spaniel heat cycle

Question
My cocker spaniel female, "Peaches", is a wonderful dog. She is not spayed, and she is 9 and half years old. She will be 10 on Sept.28th. She is healthy in every way, never having any health problems, but every time I take her to the vet, (she goes next month), I forget to ask this question. At what age will she stop going into heat? She is 22 pounds, and did have one litter of German shorthaired puppies(a big mistake at the time, but we kept two of their puppies, and have the Dad as well), at age three. We use diapers on her when shes in heat now, and that has been a great alternative. But she is older now, and I would think she should be going through some type of menopause. So, what age should she stop going into heat?
Thank you very much for this free service, and for the time taken to answer this question. Thank you!
Cheryl

Answer
First of all, you are SO lucky that at her age she has no health problems.

As for the heats..this won't end anytime soon (can go on literally forever) and it becomes more dangerous for her as she gets older.  Is there a reason you haven't spayed her?  No reason to fear it if she's in good shape and most breeders (responsible ones) end breeding at age 7.  It's very hard on them.

Do ask your vet about the possible uterine infections as she gets older.  With care and a little luck she's only halfway through her life and it's not at all too late to spay her.  Do have a chat with him about this.

Peaches at 22 lbs is a really little girl..and a lucky girl to have such good owners :)
