Question
Thanks for your answers! They helped a lot.  I am looking into purchasing Doggie Stairs.  She'll only jump from the bed if she has the bedside rug to land on. I don't know if she goes potty every time she gets up.  I think she drinks as well.  The cowering and slinking can't be from my actions because I NEVER raise my voice or act threatening towards her, she's way to little and sweet for that! She only weighs 5-6 pounds. So, we'll play our little cat and mouse game until I get her some steps.  Thanks again!

Answer
You're so entirely welcome!!  I wanted to share with you that I got my doggy steps for the bedroom on ebay and am extremely pleased with them!  I needed taller steps for a new bed and I wanted the carpeting on them to match the decor of the room.  I had them made years ago and they're still looking good and very functional.  The price was reasonable and the craftsmanship was wonderful. So, it's worth checking out ebay if you have certain size requirements or want to have them carpeted in a certain color.

The doggy steps I have in the living room (for the couch) are the ones that you use to see advertised on TV.  Walgreen's use to have them off and on for just $10.00.  Bed Bath and Beyond also use to carry them, but I don't know if they do anymore.

Your little girl is so smart to only jump from the bed if there is a rug to land on.  I think she'll feel very safe with the steps and they'll certainly benefit her.

The cowering and slinking must be due to her being so afraid to go UP and onto the bed.  It makes me wonder if she tried to jump up one time and fell.  Not hard enough to hurt her, but enough to make her cringe at the thought of being put on the bed (even if it's safely done with your assistance).  I knew a Chihuahua one time that hit her mouth going up some stairs.  No one was aware that it happened - she just became scared to go UP stairs and would only go down them.  A later examination of her mouth showed loose teeth in the front that probably were loosened when she hit a step with her mouth.

I hope the steps help!  Don't forget to feed her way before bedtime and avoid dry kibble in the hours before bed.  Please don't hesitate to write again if I can be of any help!
