Question
Hi I got my boxer as a puppy in July of 2007, his records indicate he was born April 27th, 2007. So as of this month he is 6 months and 10 days. He is currently only 46 pounds and is just 6 inches taller than when he was a puppy so 2 feet and 4 inches from the bottom of his feet to the top of his head. from seeing full grown boxers his about 1/4 the size is there something wrong with his growth rate? And could he still continue to grow? I got him from pet land I know not the best source but I absolutely fell in love with him when I saw him! Please let me know what you think!

Answer
Hi Kristina,

If your puppy was born in April 2007, he's a year and 5 months.  At 28" there is no way he is only a 1/4 of the size of full grown dogs.  However, you are measuring incorrectly.  A dogs' height is measured at the withers...the top of the back (shoulder blades).  Put the tape measure at his front foot and go straight up.

A Boxer grows in height for 12 to 18 months...they then spend about a year gaining muscle mass so aren't truly considered full grown until 30-36 months of age.

Because you purchased him at Petland, which is primarily stocked with dogs from puppymills, there's no telling how big he will get or small he will stay.
