8wk bichon not drinking much water at all

Question
We have an 8wk female Bichon Frise, had her for 2 days now and so far she has hardly drank any water out of her bowl, she is eating 3 times a day and we are adding a little boiled water, leaving it a few minutes to cool first to her dried food which she is taking but every time she goes to her bowl of water she sniffes it or very occasionaly dips her toungue in it then walkes away!

We had her checked by the vet yesterday and she is not dehydrated or anything. We even changed from bottled spring water (which we prefer) to tap water incase thats what she was used to but that didnt work either.

Will she eventually drink or has anyone any ideas,we want to stick to the dried food if possible. She is getting Royal Canin at the moment.

Answer
OK I see many questions with rhetorical answers here I can only help from my experience of working with and treating many dogs for over 30 years. Some dogs should not leave mum until at least 12 weeks , they are the immature ones, from what you say this may be the issue here.Evenso at 8 weeks she is still very immature in her experience and outlook on life, as such its your job as her new pack leader to direct her.
Bottled water is not necessary for health at all, leave a jug of water standing over night then serve will have the same effect. the  water may be still warm (tepid) she will not be used to that, I doubt the breeder gave  her tepid water so she is getting mixed signals here.JUst give her room temperature water and she will drink it.

What I am concerned about is you appear closed to any idea that only dry food is good, it is the worst diet for a bichon possible, these dogs are prone to stones and urinary tract problems as such a dry diet is not recommended.

I would alternate her dry food daily with wet food and fresh food and veggies, especially spinach , cucumber, fish, etc

I think as she has been given dry food thus far , it would be kinder to give her some goats milk for a wekk or so, but always have a dish of water there.

I would like you to log into my site

and read the diet and nutrition area, its free and it will give you the information the breeder failed to give you.
Good luck.
