Question
hi there....i hope you can give me some advice as you were very helpful last time... mollie will be 2 in july...every time i take mollie for walks on the beach she limps the next day.. before christmas i took her to beach for a walk  and the next day she was limping on her front paw, shes been to the vet twice about this and he gives her a pain killer which lasts 24 hours and then its back to limping again for 4 weeks then it gets better....she was fine for ages then yesterday i took her to the beach again and today shes limping on her back leg..i wont take her to the beach again now i know its definatly that but i find it a little strange how everyone else can walk there dogs on sand and this doesnt happen..... i know bichons being bichons are very excitable and do things top speed, but i was just wondering if you have any experience in this happening...ive noticed when she is on the beach she does not watch where shes going because shes too busy watching and chasing everybody and everything,so it could just be that  she is not paying attention to where she is walking....im  just worried its an underlying issue...my vet seems to think its not.... hoipe you can give me a bit of advice thank you so much emmax

Answer
hi emma
Ok i need more info but I suspect that its either patella luxation or cruciate ligament strain.
When she walsk does she hop and skip on the leg at the rear (if yes ) then she has slipping patella and this is common in the breed, most dont bother to test their dogs before breeding. You can seek a vets help but if this only happens on occasion then I suggest starting a daily tablet of glucosamine and chondratin for a minimum of 12 weeks, this usually helps .Holland and Barratt have these high strength ones I suggest using these.
Sand is a hard surface to walk and run on and is akin to us running on concrete thus strains can and do happen , again the treatment is glucosamine and dont have her run  on the sand for a while.

Hope this helps
