QuestionI got Madison last week from a rescue shelter. She is approximately 8 months old. She's definitely a purebred (black tri-colored) with the exception of her undocked tale. She has the Aussie energy and intelligence and is already making a great companion for my 2 year old shepherd mix Red. On to my question--she appears very healthy, but she seems to excessively pant. She's panting as soon as I get out of bed, pretty much all day while she's by my side every second of the day and is still breathing heavily even while she's falling asleep at night. I can't figure out if she's just really excited, or if it might be a health problem. Any idea?
AnswerCongratulations on your new family member!!Dogs pant to cool themselves off and when in discomfort. If you have seen no signs of injury or discomfort, I would assume that she thinks the temperature is a bit warm.
Just to be on the safe side, I always recommend that any question about health be taken to a vet for a brief well-care exam.
