Question
We have a 9 week old Aussie/corgi mix who weighs 6 lbs. Will he be considered a mini? Or could the corgi be why he doesn't weigh as much? Any guesses about weight when full grown?
Also he is a rescue from a high kill shelter in another state. We are working to get him over his kennel cough and also will be deworming him a second time. Would the kennel cough or worms effect his growth?

Answer
To be honest, unless you have seen both parents, even a description by a shelter doesn't always capture a mixed breed dog's true parentage.  For example, one of the parents could have been a mix, too.  Corgi's actually are fairly stout dogs for their height, so my guess is that the Aussie part could be a mini (Aussie folks don't consider the mini as an Aussie, they refer to it as MAS, which is the AKC term for that breed - there was a lot of controversy surrounding the miniaturization of the breed).  I doubt that the kennel cough or parasites would affect his growth that much unless the infestation or infection was quite severe.  Many puppies have internal parasites and are routinely wormed and do quite well.
