hard to remove feathers

Question
I have an Aussie who has feathers all over his body.  After brushing him they are still there.  I don't want to hurt him by brushing too hard or pulling them out.  He leaves them all over the house.  Please, what type of brush should I use?  I also have a Belgian Malnois who has the same problem.  Thank you ahead of time.

Answer
Aussies and Mals are heavy shedders and you will probably never get *all* the hair out.  However, you may be brushing incorrectly.  It's best if you take your dog to a good groomer to be shed out.  The groomer should have equipment, such as high velocity dryers, and special shampoos (such as Davis Detangling, or Ultra Best Shot) that make the task easier.  Groomers are usually happy to teach you how to line brush the dog between visits, which means you section the hair and brush a line at a time.  For Aussies and Mals, the basic equipment you will need is a slicker brush and a 7' medium/coarse comb to insure that no tangles are left after the brushing.  A slicker can "brush burn" your dog, so you need to learn to use it correctly.
You can find these in the Cherrybrook, PetEdge, or Dog's Outfitters (dog.com) catalogs.
