finding a good breeder

Question
I came across this by accident while trying to find a puppy. I live in NW New Mexico and I am trying to find a red female. I don't care about show quality, temperament is more important. I just want a family member. I am willing to drive for a bit to find a good one. Thanks for any help Jimmy

Answer
My first suggestion to anyone looking for a companion-only dog is to check with the various rescue organizations. Since you have no other requirements aside from a stable temperament, this would be an excellent place to begin your search.
The Pet Finder site lists dozens of Aussies in need of immediate homes, some currently in high kill shelters:

and Aussie Rescue also has many available dogs:

This website lists several breeders in New Mexico as well as across the US and internationally as well. You should be able to locate a fine companion among the four hundred or more breeders available.
